Today, I decided to post some good ways to get your blog noticed in the blogosphere. Now, these tips might not apply to a professional or famous blogger but the beginners can take great advantage of it. There is always a place to start and its better to start early. I believe that these tips will definitely help the new bloggers get their blogs in the list. Just go with the flow, do it step by step and tell me how it worked out for you!

1. There are tons of blog directories and the first step to get exposure is to submit your blog to these directories.

2. Submit your blog to the popular search engines (google, yahoo, bing).

3. Do some article marketing. Sites like ezine, goarticles, article dashboard are really powerful to drive traffic and also give you a good backlink. Now, you can submit the same articles to several article directories but I would pefer unique content.

4. You can also make use of several free websites to promote your blog. You need to do the searching.

5. Make a wiki page for your blog

6. Take advantage of the powerful web2.0 dominators such as Squidoo, Hubpages, Weebly, Wetpaint, Knol, Gather, Ning, Bukisa and more..

7. Get involved with social media. Create a page on myspace, facebook, hi5 and friendster.

8. Join mybloglog and blogcatalog; create a community and get involved with other’s community. Remember, when you check out other bloggers/authors posts, there is a 80% possibility that they will do the same!

9. Ping your blog regularly; at least when you update your blog.

10. Youtube is huge! It is everywhere. Create a custom video related to your blog with animoto or use any other software you find good and market it through youtube.

11. Forum is a very good place to get noticed. If you join several forums related to your niche and stay active, you can easily use your signature to drive traffic.

12. Use social media plugins on your blog. This helps your readers to submit the post they find good, making your work easier.

13. Yahoo answers can be a great way to get noticed. When I google something, I get a lot of searches from yahoo answers and hence I realized its potential. You can help out people by answering their questions; at the same time you can put a link to your blog in your resource box which is a great link juice.

14. Make use of good seo and social bookmarking plugins on your blog.

15. Use a comment notifying plug-in to let your readers know about new comments. believe it or not, most people read more of other peoples comment on your post, than your post itself.

16. Keywords are one of the main factors determining the visibility of the blog. Use a good keyword tool to find good and relevant keywords in your niche. I use keyword elite but you can use the free google keyword tool.

17. Take advantage of the Press Rrelease Sites to gain visibility.

18. Use Pingomatic to ping RSS aggregators.

I know there are tons more but these will at least help any new blogger get some exposure on the web. If you have any you think is worth mentioning, feel free to add them through comments.

Share and spread the word!

In my last post, I mentioned 5 major steps to increase blog traffic. I hope everyone is following. So now when you have done that, follow the 5 next steps in order to complete this cycle. I bet this will give you a boost in gaining targeted traffic for your blog.

6. Submit Your Articles to Powerful Article Directories

This is called article marketing. Now it depends on what strategies you implement to get your blog noticed. I believe the power of article marketing and it does wonders. To be honest, it might not bring massive traffic initially but trust me, it will sooner. It also helps you in terms of SERPS, SEO and backlinks. There is also an advantage to this; when your articles get published, a lot of other authors or Webbers might use them on their own site and provide a link back to yours. I will provide some very good article directories I have personally tested and use on a regular basis and hope you start working on them right away.

Ezine Articles

GoArticles

Associated Content

Article Base

Buzzle

Article Dashboard

Helium

A1 Articles

I Snare

Self Growth

There are several more and I am thinking about making a list soon and spreading the word. I also own a new article directory called e-ZineArticles which will be live soon! Hoping to see your content out there

7. Submit your Blog To Blog Directories

Adding your blog to directory is very important but not always necessary. This might not bring a flood of new readers but at least it has its own benefits. If you do it good and work hard on it, believe me, you will get good readers very soon. I am providing the best directories in my opinion that I have come a cross and found very useful.

Blog Top Sites

Blog Hub

dmoz

Fuel my Blog

Yahoo

Top Blog Lists

Technorati

myBlogLog

iceRocket

Blog Hints

You can definitely find lots more if you google but these are the best ones in terms of ranking and reputation and the best ones to start with.

8. Encourage Comments On Your Blog

Commenting is a great contribution. People comment when they have something to say or contribute to a particular post. One of the most powerful ways to convince a visitor to become a loyal reader is to show that there are other several loyal readers already following you. When people comment on your blog, others might get interested and join the conversation. A serious blogger would always interact with the audience and keep up with the blog. If your post has comments that require a response then I would suggest that you provide a valid response. Another way of encouraging commenting is rewarding your readers. There are various ways to do this. I return the favor by giving my commentators a “dofollow” author link—this is a total free link juice. I will have several more rewards coming up soon.

9. Write More “Pillar” Articles

I have mentioned the importance of pillar articles. It is good to write one every once in a while. Now I am not asking everyone to google for it, copy it, and then paste it on your blog. You write about what you know based on your experience. I am writing this post because I have gone through this and since it works for me, it should work for you too. I don’t suggest providing tips for something I don’t know. So all I am asking is, google your term, do a little research, work on it and come up with your own version of tips and solution. As I always say, everyone has something different to contribute; sharing knowledge is totally FREE!

10. Learn, Implement and Repeat

This is the best point of this post. Now that you have learnt the basic tips to gain exposure for your blog, it’s time that you implement them. Make sure you don’t overdo stuffs. You may find tons of other article directories and blog directories for submission but remember, submitting your blog and content to the wrong spots can affect your blog ranking and google PR. I recommend that you start with all the tips I have mentioned and then repeat it frequently. Do this couple of times for a few months and then come and tell me how it is going. If you need any assistance, please feel free to comment and ask questions. Good Luck!

First Steps to Get Targeted Traffic!

Every blogger has a day when he finally decides to start a blog and reach out to his audience. So you have started the blog, made some posts, now what? You are expecting visitors! The first time you may get a few hits but to get the main attention you need to market it. Marketing a blog is very important; it plays a huge role in exposing your blog to the world. I have decided to put together several tips to help out the new bloggers who have JUST started a blog and are looking for exposure.

1. First, Make Sure You Use An Appropriate Domain Name

Ok let me be honest. How many bloggers out there use a free wordpress or subdomain name? Tons! Sometimes you start a free blog and get bored out of it in couple of days and then simply quit. I know many of you have do that or have done that in the past. I have done it myself so I know how it works. Now, when we talk about purchasing a hosting or domain, we don’t simply try to sell it to you and make money but we try to emphasize the importance of having your own domain. If you invest on something you will definitely work hard towards it to get your return. Your domain is your online blog recognition. It is cheap and worth it so make sure that it is relevant to your niche.

2. Write At least One New Blog Post A Day

If you are serious about blogging, you will have to make the commitment of writing at least one post a day. Your readers are hungry for knowledge and they expect something new and useful on a regular basis. That is why they subscribe to your blog. Think about it, if a new visitor visits your blog and finds out that the latest post was done weeks ago; he will not take any further steps or waste his time to check out your blog. This shows that you are not serious about blogging and there is no point subscribing to your blog.

I know sometimes you are busy; oh come on we bloggers are busy too but at least try to keep up with the blogosphere. Just an important note: If you have just started a blog, you need to update it everyday for at least several months.

3. Write Several Major “Pillar” Articles

You should have come across this term. Most popular bloggers will always mention the importance of pillar articles. A pillar article is a tutorial which is aimed to help your audience in a certain field. Consider this post as a pillar article–I am writing several tips to help you increase blog traffic. Pillar articles are important. Everyone has something to share. You might have your personal experience with a certain niche or thing and you can simply write about it. This helps other learn and keep up. If you compare your usual posts with pillar articles, they have great advantages. Pillar articles usually have a long term appeal. For example: I am posting tips on increasing blog traffic. Now this will work if you implement it now or even several months later. The more pillar articles you have on your blog, it is the better.

4. Comment On Other Similar Blogs

Commenting on blogs is really important and brings tons of targeted visitors to your site. You should try to comment on blogs similar to your niche since you know that the readers from that blog might be interested in your stuff since its related. It wont make much sense if you comment on some health blogs while focusing on tech niche on your own blog. Although you can do that for extra traffic or backlinks but I would suggest you try to focus on your niche types. There is one more advantage to commenting; some bloggers reward their commentators with a do-follow link which is just awesome.

5. Trackback And Link To Other Blogs In Your Posts.

A trackback is one of three types of link backs. It is a method for authors and bloggers to request notification when somebody links to one of their posts. This allows them to keep track of who is linking to their articles. Trackbacks often appear like comments. If you are still confused about trackbacks just check out the comments on this post. They work in a similar way comments do. They also get attention of various other bloggers who might drop by, check out your posts and decide to link your blog with one of their posts. This is just sweet—which means more targeted traffic.

Hope you found this article useful. I will be posting the next part in a bit. Feel free to share, comment and ask question. Till then, take it easy!
